Achieving therapeutic goals through dance
Dual Therapy’s Functional Dance Classes for children are run by a Registered Occupational Therapist and a Registered Physiotherapist, both with extensive background in dance and working with children. The goal of the program is to help children achieve therapeutic functional goals through dance and movement while in a fun, inclusive group setting. At the start of the program, parents will identify goals (physical, social, emotional) for their child to work towards during the 6 week dance session. The classes will run with a 1:2 instructor to student ratio, allowing for individualized attention and goal oriented care.
Each class with begin with an interactive activity, followed by a warm up for the students to explore their body movements. Class activities will focus on balance, strength, coordination, motor planning, flexibility, and social interaction. Throughout the classes, the students will work on a choreographed dance routine that incorporates skills learned and practiced throughout the classes. The dance will be performed at the final class.
